WGU Reaches Graduate Milestones in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties

Western Governors University, an accredited online university, has announced that it has conferred 5,035 bachelor’s and master’s degrees in South Carolina as of October 2021. That figure includes 866 graduates in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. As the nation’s largest nonprofit university, WGU has conferred more than 250,000 degrees since its founding in 1997.

Among WGU alumni in South Carolina are 2,572 graduates from the College of Health Professions, 1,067 graduates from the Teachers College, and nearly 1,000 graduates from the Business College. WGU offers more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the fields of business, K-12 teacher education, information technology, and healthcare, including nursing.

“About 44 percent of our graduates in South Carolina are the first in their family to earn a college degree,” said Ben Coulter, Ed.D., Southeast Regional Director for WGU. “That’s just one aspect of the positive impact that WGU’s flexible and affordable degree programs have in the Palmetto State.”

More than 2,200 South Carolinians are currently enrolled at WGU, which employs 104 instructors, mentors, and staff statewide. Last year, the university awarded more than $259,000 in scholarships throughout South Carolina. For more information about WGU, visit www.wgu.edu.
