Upstate Transportation Coalition Celebrates PARK(ing) Day 2018

GREENVILLE, S.C. (September 17, 2018) – The Upstate Transportation Coalition will participate in PARK(ing) Day on Friday, Sept. 21—a day when parking spaces are transformed into interactive, family-friendly parklets.

DATE: Friday, September 21 from 10am-4pm
WHERE: Coffee Street, at the intersection of Main Street in front of Trio Brick Oven Cafe

PARK(ing) Day is an annual open source event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into miniature parklets of public space or “PARK(ing)” spaces. Sponsored by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), PARK(ing) Day allows communities to rethink the way streets are used and to re-imagine the possibilities of the urban landscape.

In celebration of PARK(ing) Day, ALSA’s South Carolina chapter will transform parking spaces in downtown Greenville into an interactive, family-friendly parklet. Activities throughout the day include playing a life-size game of battleship and talking with professionals about urban design.

ASLA has partnered with the Upstate Transportation Coalition (UTC) to incorporate conversation about alternative transportation into the day’s events, including:
• 10am – 10:30am - Story time with Greenlink: Bring your little ones out to the parklet to listen to stories about bus transportation. Titles include Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Gus the Dinosaur Bus, Bunny Bus, and more!
• 11am – 12pm - Greenlink Transit Development Plan: Come meet Greenlink staff to learn about the recently unveiled Transit Development Plan (TDP). The TDP outlines possible future service expansions, including longer hours, increases in service frequency, Sunday service and
