Upstate Toastmaster to compete in the Semifinals of World Championship of Public Speaking Contest in Denver

Upstate Songwriter and Podcaster Marlo Hogue

With a speech titled “Catch Breath Press On” Local Songwriter and Podcaster Marlo Hogue chronicled her journey of starting dialysis 3 weeks after her 25th birthday to win Toastmasters District 58 International speech contest this past weekend in Columbia South Carolina.

The winning extremely emotional speech resonated with the crowd of nearly 200 people from all over the state in the Embassy Suites Ballroom in Columbia. She crafted her personal story as a reminder for us to catch our breath and press on, no matter If you are frustrated with life or are mourning the death of a dream just catch your breath can press on.

Marlo who sees herself as a “Warrior Encourager” is representing the Women's Empowerment Toastmasters in the upstate that meets every 1st and 3rd Friday at Paxton Access 138 Commerce Center where this journey began on her way to Columbia with this continuing to Denver, Colorado at Toastmasters International Convention this August 21st to 24th. At the semifinals in Denver, if she wins the Region Quarter Finals round that takes place in the next couple of weeks. This a new process this year as videos of District 1st place winners were sent to WHQ, with Region Quarterfinals as a remote session

As a daughter of a Pastor and a Social Worker Marlo embraces her role as a storyteller, survivor, and a lover of life. And it comes through loud and clear in her speech encouraging us all to “Catch Breath Press On”
