Columbia, SC — The South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) has named Dr. Allen Fain, Director of the Adult Learning Center in the Pickens County School District, the 2020 South Carolina Adult Education Director of the Year.
Dr. Fain has dedicated 22 years to students as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and now as an adult education director. In his four years as director of the Adult Learning Center, he has established a vision for the adult education program in Pickens County that enables adult education students to build a better future for themselves, their families, and the entire Pickens community. Through creative partnerships and initiatives, Dr. Fain has expanded the reach of the Adult Learning Center, including the implementation of countywide satellite programs and the development of a career pathways program through Tri-County Technical College.
“We are pleased to announce that Dr. Allen Fain has been named the SCASA Adult Education Director of the Year,” said Beth Phibbs, Executive Director of SCASA, “His commitment to his students is unwavering and his innovative thinking provides needed opportunities for them to be successful.”
Pickens County School District Superintendent, Dr. Danny Merck, commented on Dr. Fain’s tremendous contribution to the district, “Dr. Fain has not just made a difference for our Adult Learning Program, he has truly had an impact on our whole district. Every one of our high schools has benefited from his efforts to help students graduate on time, and he has helped transform the lives of adult students who never would have earned their degree without his influence. His transition from elementary school principal to an outstanding adult education director is remarkable, and his success is driven by his love for students.”
Dr. Fain will be recognized throughout the year for his accomplishments and contributions to adult education in South Carolina. The state sponsor for the award is Herff Jones.
