GREENVILLE, S.C. — This year marks the 85th anniversary and celebration of National Donut Day, held annually on the first Friday in June. Established in 1938 by The Salvation Army, National Donut Day is not only a great excuse to visit your favorite local bakery but also a reminder of the bravery of The Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies” who joined soldiers’ on the front lines during World War I.
In 1917, The Salvation Army volunteers traveled to France and set up makeshift huts to provide soldiers with essential supplies, emotional and spiritual support, and fresh baked donuts. The sweet treat did more than raise spirits; it brought comfort and a taste of home to those who risked their lives.
This year, The Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens & Oconee Counties continues serving on the front lines of our community by providing a wide range of programs and services to vulnerable individuals and families in need. The Salvation Army provides spiritual, emotional, and financial care and social services support to more than 40,300 people annually across Greenville, Pickens and Oconee.
On Friday, June 2, from 9 to 11 a.m., in honor of National Donut Day, The Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens & Oconee Counties will provide complimentary donuts and coffee while supplies last to people visiting The Salvation Army Family Stores. There are four locations across the Upstate:

In addition, The Salvation Army of Greenville plans to deliver donuts to first responders in the area as a way of saying thank you for serving the community. Donuts were generously provided by Lowe’s Foods in Greenville. The Salvation Army of Oconee will
continue their annual tradition of delivering donuts to first responders throughout
Oconee County as well.
