(Greenville, SC | January 10, 2017) -‐‑ The Salvation Army Greenville Area Command announces recent promotions for the positions of Service Center Unit Director for Pickens County and Human Resources Director for the Greenville Area Command.
Jim AbboD named Service Center Unit Director for The Salvation Army of Pickens County
Jim AbboY has worked for The Salvation Army since 2008, serving lastly as the Human Resources Director for the Greenville Area Command. In May of 2014, Jim was recognized by The Salvation Army’s Divisional Headquarters Human Resources Department as their first ever “Pride in Performance” recipient. Jim was selected by TSA divisional staff as the outstanding HR professional for the North and South Carolina Division which consists of 66 corps locations.
Jim feels personally called to a life of service for those in need. He has been involved in a “Feed the Streets” ministry for seven years and has led a men’s open community bible study at The Salvation Army for three years. Jim has been a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church for 17 years and serves as chairperson for the Homeless/Poverty branch of the Missions and Outreach Commission. He served on the inaugural Advisory Board for the “CirclesUSA” community initiative addressing poverty in Greenville County. Jim was a member of the initial search commiYee that made recommendation for the CirclesUSA model. The commiYee included members from several local agencies and churches looking for the next step in developing a full cycle of service in addressing obstacles to those experiencing poverty and wanting to earn their way to independent living in Greenville.
As he has continued in response to his personal call from Christ to serve others, Jim feels he is now prepared to give himself to a full time ministry, serving others for Jesus Christ through the mission of The Salvation Army. Jim is especially excited and proud to serve Pickens County where his parents currently live and where Jim was first introduced to South Carolina.
Tykia Geer named Human Resources Director for The Salvation Army Greenville Area Command
Tykia Geer has worked for The Salvation for over ten years. She began her time with The Salvation Army as an Administrative & Human Resources Assistant in Anderson, SC.
She has since worked at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Greenville, SC as the Administrative and Membership Assistant, and The Salvation Army Greenville Area Command as the Database Coordinator.
Tykia has a degree in Management and brings years of experience, professionalism, and knowledge of The Salvation Army’s mission. Tykia is excited to pursue this next step in her career, particularly within an organization that she feels dedication towards.
