GREENVILLE, SC- JULY 27, 2018- The Tajh Boyd Foundation has named Greenville attorney, John Hine, as its executive director. Hine has worked with the organization since 2016 as an original board member.
The Tajh Boyd Foundation is a nonprofit organization that empowers and enables youth in South Carolina to overcome adversity through long-term education, mentoring, and character development. Founded in 2015 by former Clemson University quarterback, Tajh Boyd, the organization began by hosting backpack drives for underprivileged elementary and middle school students in the Upstate before the first day of school.
As the organization has grown and expanded far beyond handing out backpacks, Boyd saw a need to appoint an executive director.
“I became the executive director because Tajh’s passion for the kids is truly contagious. When you hear Tajh talk about these kids and his vision for their lives, you can’t help but want to be involved. It is truly my honor and privilege to hopefully play a small part in that vision,” Hine said.
Since taking his position, Hine already has extension plans for the organization. In the past 3 years combined, the organization has handed out over 900 backpacks filled with school supplies, but in this year alone, they will give out 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies.
“My goal as the executive director is to take the Foundation beyond an organization that just hands out backpacks and school supplies at the beginning of the year. It isn’t enough to just drop some stuff off and then disappear for a year. We want to walk with these kids throughout the year and help them succeed by providing them with emotional and mental support in addition to helping meet their physical needs.”
