Southern Wesleyan University received Best Online status for its bachelor of science in human services (BSHS) degree program.
Southern Wesleyan’s BSHS program earned a number 20 ranking on bestcolleges.com. Bestcolleges.com regularly publishes college rankings to show what institutions across the nation offer in terms of top-rated academics and student lifestyle. These rankings use a methodology grounded in statistical data and consistently applied guiding principles that include academic quality, affordability and online competency.
The online BSHS, offered from a faith-based perspective, offers students three standard concentrations: social service administration, marriage and family services, or Christian counseling. The website noted Southern Wesleyan’s practical, hands-on approach to learning through intensive field placement requirements and also the generous financial assistance programs being offered, as well as its 10 percent tuition reduction to student members of Head Start programs across the nation.
“The Social Sciences Division is honored and excited to see the Best College ranking for our online Human Services degree,” said Dr. Steven Hayduk, chair of Southern Wesleyan’s Social Sciences Division. “We are pleased that Best Colleges recognized our recent redesign of the program, which strengthened the rigor of the program, and our effectiveness at both placing graduating students in a wide variety of human services related positions and at the number of human services students who go onto to graduate work in counseling or social work.
The human services major offers both a solid core curriculum and the opportunity to focus on areas of particular interest, with currently available concentrations such as counseling, non-profit administration, family services, and criminal justice.”
