Richard Reutter of Caroline's Cakes in the new bakery storefront.
The overall experience of Caroline's Cakes new bakery storefront in Spartanburg, South Carolina embodies the company’s tagline– “Eat Cake. Be Happy.” The storefront is located in the front of the existing bakery on 925 Beaumont Avenue and opened in the 10th anniversary year of the company's location in Spartanburg and the 40th anniversary of their iconic Caramel Cake. It's an exciting new development spearheaded by the late founder Caroline Ragsdale Reutter's son Richard Reutter.
There is a signature yellow and white awning - a nod to the bakery's previous location in Annapolis, MD - which hovers over a charming porch space with a joggling board reminiscent of the very first, unofficial storefront, Caroline's home. The board was once the official pick-up spot for cakes bought on the honor system (payment by check was dropped off in the big red tin - now the company's signature packaging). Cases display a variety of traditional and seasonal Layer Cakes, Cakes-by-the-Slice, Cake Bites, Cupcakes, and Savory Specialties– served ready-to-eat in store or packaged to take home. Customers can browse a curated selection of dry goods and accessories from like-minded partners. There's a spot to enjoy a leisurely slice in the space’s banquette seating.
