Spartanburg Community College Unveils Newly Organized Office of Economic Advancement

This week, Spartanburg Community College unveiled a newly organized office of Economic Advancement, being led by Mr. Ethan Burroughs — who served for thirty years as Market President and Commercial Relationship Manager with Wells Fargo Bank. Further, SCC announced Mr. John Jaraczewski (former Executive Director of the Greenville Literacy Association) would serve as the College’s new Executive Director of Advancement.

SCC is dedicated to greatly accelerating the overarching competitiveness of the Upstate Region of South Carolina through delivering unique and innovative economic solutions to support and grow the communities it serves while simultaneously enhancing quality of life through higher educational attainment. To take full advantage of current talent and resources, and to further develop future talent and resources, the division of Economic Advancement — that Includes the innovative Spark Enterprise Campuses in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties as well as corporate education and training and the SCC Foundation — was created.

To lead this new division, SCC announced Mr. Ethan Burroughs as the new Vice President of Economic Advancement.  Mr. Burroughs’ knowledge, experience, and community focus will greatly enhance and facilitate the College’s mission of serving as the comprehensive nexus between higher education and the regional economy.

Having served as Market President and Commercial Banking Relationship Manager for Wells Fargo Bank in Spartanburg for more than thirty years, Mr. Burroughs brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Moreover, Mr. Burroughs’ commitment to our community runs deep and is evidenced by his current and former service on numerous boards at regional entities such as OneSpartanburg, Inc., The Mary Black Foundation, and The United Way of the Piedmont to name just a few.

Additionally, Spartanburg Community College announced the hiring of Mr. John Jaraczewski to serve as the College’s new Executive Director of Advancement. Mr. Jaraczewski most recently served as the Executive Director of the Greenville Literacy Association and brings a wealth of experience in development to the table as he will take over as head of the SCC Foundation.

“The Spartanburg Community College Foundation plays a vital role in moving our communities forward as it is the key organization in our region that links private investment and partnerships with the public mission of our College,” said Dr. Michael Mikota, President of SCC.  “As Spartanburg Community College continues to lead initiatives forging connections between the economy and higher education it is essential that our many investors and stakeholders understand the importance of further enhancing relationships and resources that will provide the greatest return on investment to the citizens of our dynamically growing region. Mr. Jaraczewski is uniquely positioned in this role, paired with his experience and expertise, to greatly advance the mission of our College and the communities we serve.  I am very proud to welcome him to the Chaser Family and look forward to the many accomplishments we will realize together.”

As SCC’s Executive Director of Advancement, Mr. Jaraczewski will work closely with the President, Vice President of Economic Advancement, and Foundation Board Members in developing and executing strategic priorities related to fundraising by developing and executing various campaign strategies to include individual and corporate donor funds, major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, faculty and staff giving, as well as research, donor prospecting, and relationship development and sustainability. He will also lead the areas of alumni engagement, community, and economic development relations.

Mr. Jaraczewski comes to the Spartanburg Community College Foundation having recently served as the Executive Director of the Greenville Literacy Association (GLA). Prior to moving to the Upstate, Mr. Jaraczewski was Assistant Chancellor of University Advancement at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 2012-2019. In addition to his work in higher education, Mr. Jaraczewski brings significant experience in public affairs, corporate relations, as well as fund development.
