The non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) has named Wanda Moore McDowell as the national Industry Member of the Year, of Inman, S.C.

Since 2003, McDowell has served as Southeast Region Sales Manager for Super Bakery, Inc., based in Pittsburgh, PA. An active SNA member for 19 years, she has participated in 18 SNA national conferences and more than 90 SNA state affiliate conferences, and elevated Super Bakery’s support for programs and events benefiting SNA members.

McDowell currently serves on SNA’s Industry Advisory Council and the School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) Board, serving on the 2021 SNF 5K Walk with a Purpose committee. McDowell was instrumental in Super Bakery’s partnership with SNF on the Party with a Purpose fundraising initiative at ANC, helping to raise $30,000 to support the Foundation’s scholarships and professional development programs for members.

McDowell has tirelessly supported SNA state affiliates across the Southeast region, helping to plan state conference activities and fundraisers, sponsoring and serving as a speaker or facilitator at numerous events. She has served on three state affiliate Industry Advisory Boards, including more than six terms on Mississippi’s IAB, and has volunteered on several committees. Notably, McDowell’s expertise was invaluable when she served on a state scholarship committee. Equipped with a decade of previous experience as an admissions counselor and Director of Admissions for Converse College, McDowell assisted in evaluating applications and re-designing the scholarship application and score sheet for simplification and continuity.

McDowell spearheaded Super Bakery’s sponsorship of Georgia SNA’s “Let’s Move” Literary Consortium, giving students the opportunity to write essays addressing childhood obesity. She has worked with school meal programs to host recipe contests with their culinary departments and served on the Board for the South Carolina Culinary Partners, Inc., created to teach school foodservice personnel about healthy foods and improve their culinary skills.

“SNA members are so grateful for Wanda’s steadfast support for their programs,” said SNA President Reggie Ross, SNS. “Wanda has given countless hours to ensuring the success of SNA both at the national level and in affiliates across the Southeast. Whether she’s volunteering on a silent auction committee or sharing her expertise on a steering committee, Wanda’s enthusiasm and willingness to serve is unwavering.”
