GREENVILLE, S.C.— First Citizens Bank will present “Arts Escape,” a fundraising event benefiting the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities on Thursday, Dec. 3 from 7-8 p.m.
At the Governor’s School, South Carolina’s most promising young people receive the resources they need to evolve as artists and creative thinkers. Arts Escape will provide an opportunity for supporters of the school to participate in a multi-disciplinary virtual art class inspired by the Governor’s School experience. The event will be hosted by the Governor’s School Foundation.
“At First Citizens, we believe the arts have the power to enrich lives and help us learn more about the world around us,” said Darren Morton, vice president and institutional consultant at First Citizens Bank. “That’s why we’re excited to help sponsor this unique art experience and support the Governor’s School. We are inspired by the school and its students. This event is an extension of our Forever First commitment to the people and community we serve.”
Multimedia artist and class of 2010 alum Glory Day Loflin will walk guests through a multi-disciplinary process resulting in each guest creating an art piece inspired by his or her reflections on the year 2020.
Loflin is a Greenville-based artist who uses multiple materials to generate paintings, drawings, and sculptures based on her day-to-day life experience. Her most recent work explores still life and tablescape imagery, often incorporating cues to her upbringing in the South.
“We’re excited to have this opportunity to partner with the talented artist and Governor’s School alumna Glory Day Loflin and the incredibly talented students of the Governor’s School,” said Rochelle Williams, executive director of the Governor’s School Foundation, “The event is possible because of First Citizens' investment in the school and the talented young people who attend it.”
Located in Greenville, the Governor’s School’s mission is to serve the artistically talented students of South Carolina through programs of pre-professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence. The school also serves as a resource for all teachers and students in the state.
Event proceeds will benefit Governor’s School students and the students and teachers enrolled in the school’s arts education outreach programs at partner schools and programs around the state.
