S.C. House of Representatives recognizes Allen Gillespie for distinguished public service

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The South Carolina House of Representatives recently recognized Allen Gillespie, Chief Investment Officer at FinTrust Capital Advisors, for his public service and commitment to the State of South Carolina as a commissioner of the Retirement System Investment Commission. Gillespie served on the Commission for more than 15 years and was thanked by the House for his dedication to improving the quality of life for the citizens of the Palmetto State.

Gillespie was appointed by the House Ways & Means Committee as one of the original commissioners for the Retirement System Investment Commission in 2005 and served until 2021. While a member of the Board, he established the Pension Fund’s first Risk and Audit Committee and served one two-year term as Chairman of the Board.

In the Upstate community, Gillespie served on the Meals on Wheels of Greenville Endowment Board from 2021-2015 and the GAMAC Endowment Board from 2009-2015. Additionally, Gillespie has been recognized by Institutional Investor’s 25 Rising Stars of Hedge Funds and served as a CFA Institute Research Challenge Mentor to Wofford College and the University of Alabama.

Gillespie has been in the investment industry since 1995, specializing in asset allocation research, manager of due diligence, individual security analysis and custom portfolio management. In his current role as Chief Investment Officer, he works closely with FinTrust’s advisors to help analyze portfolios and develop investment recommendations and implementation strategies for clients.

An Anderson, S.C. native, Gillespie graduated cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in economics from Washington & Lee University where he was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an economics honor society. When not working, you can find him operating as the scoreboard manager and/or announcer for various Saint Joseph High School football and soccer teams.
