Prisma Health breaks ground on new ambulatory surgery center to increase access to outpatient surgical care in the Upstate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Residents of the Upstate will now have more access to same-day surgical procedures including urology, gynecology and general surgery. Prisma Health has broken ground on a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC) that will provide patients with efficient and high-quality care.

Located at 64 Centennial Way, the two-story, 45,351-square-foot surgery center will house six fully built-out operating rooms with the necessary patient and clinical support functions on the upper level. The lower level will include space for future development. The new center is slated to open in fall 2024.

“We identified the need for greater access to minimally invasive surgical procedures in an outpatient setting rather than at a hospital,” said Dr. Patrick Springhart, a urologist and surgeon at Centennial ASC. “We are excited to meet our community’s needs with a new facility and increase access to surgical care.”

Benefits of ambulatory surgery centers include:
•Convenience and efficiency: ASCs provide an easy check-in and out process, accessible parking and easy navigation when coming in for an appointment. Additionally, ASCs are specifically designed for surgery making it easier for patients to get an appointment in a timely manner.
•Comfortability: Patients undergo their surgery and can recover in the comfort of their own homes the same night.
•Lower cost of care: Due to lower overhead costs and the ability to recover at home, surgeries at ASCs often cost less than in a hospital setting.
•Decreases duplication in health services: Because patients can get into surgery quicker, ASCs keep patients from repeat visits to the emergency room.

Patients are selected for surgery at Centennial ASC by their Prisma Health physician based on the appropriate safety and needs of the patient.
