NHFHS to Host “Conversations About PrEP”

On Monday, September 27 at 6:30 pm, New Horizon Family Health Services (NHFHS) will host “Conversations About PrEP,” a virtual event to raise awareness of PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), the highly effective HIV prevention method that works by taking one pill every day.

Scott Brown, Ryan White Program Director; Annette Walker, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist – Infectious Disease; and Hope Adams, RN, CCM, PrEP Navigator/Clinical Education Specialist will be participating in the discussion to offer information including who should take PrEP, how to get started and resources that may be able to help with medication cost. When taken as prescribed, PrEP has been shown to be 99% effective in the prevention of HIV.

The event may be viewed on NHFHS’ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/QualityHealthCareForAllPeople and occurs during SC DHEC’s PrEP Awareness Week observance.

“HIV screening and prevention are key to ending the HIV epidemic,” said Brown. "We hope individuals will join us for this important conversation to learn more about PrEP, the most common way to prevent HIV in those with increased risk.”

NHFHS’ Ryan White offers free HIV screening with no appointment at our 975 W. Faris Road office in Greenville Monday-Friday from 9 am – 4 pm. Individuals can also request an in-home HIV screening kit to be mailed free of charge. To learn more, call 864-729-8330, extension 2543.
