The Upper South Carolina Council of the Navy League is pleased to announce that Captain John D. Cole, Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Charleston and Captain of the Port, will be the guest speaker at its September 30, 2021, dinner program at the Poinsett Club in Greenville, SC.

The public is cordially invited to join us for this unique opportunity to hear Captain Cole discuss the Coast Guard mission and future expansion in Charleston. The Commandant of the Coast Guard in 2020 identified Charleston as a “future Coast Guard operational center of gravity” with “the potential to grow into the largest concentration of assets and people in the Coast Guard” in five years.

The Coast Guard would use the port as a base for a compliment of yet to be built offshore patrol cutters, with the first Offshore Patrol Cutter, the Argus, set to be delivered in 2022. The program is expected to generate twenty-five hulls that will ultimately comprise almost seventy percent of Coast Guard offshore presence.

Tickets are $39 per person and include dinner. For details and reservation information, please go to: https://bit.ly/NavyLeagueDinner093021 or email NavyLeague.UpperSCCouncil@gmail.com.
