Funding will provide food and emergency assistance to families in crisis.
Lyman, S.C. — Middle Tyger Community Center is excited to announce receipt of a $7500 Critical Community Needs Grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, the non-profit arm of Dominion Energy.
The grant will fund equipment needed for Middle Tyger Community Center’s food pantry, supplemental fresh food for families and senior citizens served by the pantry, and support a portion of a Case Manager to work with families in crisis. The Case Manager is the crucial link that connects clients to resources for improved financial stability and ensures that donations from the community are used responsibly.
Middle Tyger Community Center is located in rural western Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The Center provides comprehensive resources to the community, from birth through retirement. Programs include a preschool, Adult Education, a free health clinic, a counseling center, crisis intervention and case management, a Senior Center, and support for adolescent families. The over-arching goal of all these programs is to break the cycle of generational poverty and create a thriving, healthy community.
“Middle Tyger Community Center is dedicated to helping families and individuals on the path to financial stability, but we also recognize that it is impossible for a person to focus on long-term change when they are hungry,” said Middle Tyger Community Center Executive Director Andrea Moore. “This grant from Dominion Energy allows us to meet basic food needs while also providing resources for increased self-sufficiency.”
Middle Tyger Community Center’s commitment to addressing the root causes of poverty, while also providing compassionate assistance in times of crisis, resonated with Dominion Energy’s charitable priorities. Dominion Energy, headquartered in Richmond, VA, is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy. It has had a strong and growing presence in South Carolina since 2015, transporting natural gas to industrial customers and operating solar facilities. The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation is dedicated to improving the physical, social and economic well-being of the communities served by Dominion Energy. The Foundation supports nonprofit causes that meet basic human needs, protect the environment, promote education and encourage community vitality.
“Dominion Energy is honored to partner with Middle Tyger Community Center to provide practical and immediate help, as well as longer-term assistance for individuals and families working to escape poverty,” said Kristen Beckham, external affairs representative for Dominion Energy. “We are thrilled to be able to help with such a critical community need.”
