GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – Meals on Wheels of Greenville released it’s 2020 Annual Report that highlights efforts made by the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue service safely and effectively. Due to measures put in place to improve on the level of service, Meals on Wheels was well-equipped to handle a 30% increase in demand which came with unexpected challenges that required quick operational adjustments. Overall, Meals on Wheels provided 433,361 meals to individuals in Greenville County during 2020.
“Walking into 2020, we could not have imagined the challenges that would come our way,” said Executive Director Catriona Carlisle. “Due to overwhelming support from our partners, donors and volunteers, we quickly developed new processes and initiatives that effectively responded to the changing needs of our community while keeping health and safety our top priority.”
The 2020 Annual Report breaks down the year by numbers. Meals on Wheels served more than 1,300 new clients, resulting in over 75,000 additional meals provided to the community. The “Projects Through the Pandemic” section highlights initiatives—like emergency meal kits and veteran weekend boxes—which were created to maintain clients’ nutritional needs when emergency events prevented standard delivery. Nearly 500 new volunteers and 27 new route partners aided in our efforts to provide these resources during a difficult year.
