Mashburn Construction announces plans to purchase property in Myrtle Beach’s historic downtown

Myrtle Beach, S.C.— Myrtle Beach is preparing to welcome the first new business to the Arts & Innovation District since the Downtown Master Plan was approved earlier this year. At Tuesday’s meeting, the Myrtle Beach City Council will consider the sale of 807 North Kings Highway, which fronts on Nance Plaza, to Mashburn Construction Company.

The company hopes to restore the Kings Highway site using historic tax credits that will be available once the area is officially recognized as part of the National Historic Register in September. President of Mashburn Construction, Lee Mashburn said, “Our company has built a strong portfolio for restoring historic buildings, and this is a great way to preserve this part of Myrtle Beach’s history. This building was the right fit for our current operations and will allow us to grow our footprint in the community to better serve our current and future clients.”

The building will soon house Mashburn’s Myrtle Beach operations. Mashburn has offices in Columbia, Charleston and Greenville and specializes in a multitude of construction types. “Our history in Myrtle Beach is significant, dating back to the early 1990s with the construction of Medieval Times,” said Paul Mashburn, CEO of Mashburn Construction.

The 2,500 square foot building is on the south end of Nance Plaza, adjacent to House Parts, a decorative home hardware store. The building purchase by Mashburn Construction Company and planned restoration of the property will help preserve the historic character of the district. It also will increase traffic and visibility for other nearby businesses.

“City Council is pleased that Mashburn Construction shares our vision for a restored and revitalized downtown Myrtle Beach,” Mayor Brenda Bethune said. “This is the first private-sector investment in the Arts & Innovation District since the new Downtown Master Plan was approved. It’s a clear sign of a bright future for this area, which is included in one of Myrtle Beach’s two federally-designated Opportunity Zones,” Bethune noted.
