Local group to produce Scottish Heritage Film

GREENVILLE, S.C. – A local film crew is heading to Scotland for the upcoming Scotland USA Film Project.

This unique endeavor is a collaborative effort put together by Matt Morgan, Grey Thompson, Silas Rowland and Jay Spivey. The film will document how Scottish heritage has had a major impact, not just around the Upstate communities but all over the southern regions of the United States. The goal is to display how Scottish immigrants have shaped our music and culture.

“We wanted to create something that reflects just how much of an impact Scottish Heritage has had all over the region,” said Jay Spivey, a long time Greenville marketing leader and entrepreneur. “This movie will give insight to that and hopefully get more people interested in the games as well as organizations around the Upstate that keep the Scottish culture relevant.”

The four-man film crew will be traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland in July to interview and film the Royal Highland Fusiliers (RHF). The RHF Honor Guard has been attending the Greenville Scottish Games for eight years and has plenty of insight to share for the film. Interviews throughout the documentary will also include people around the Greenville community as well as members of the St. Andrew’s Society of Upper South Carolina.

Filming is set to begin this year with Sit-N-Spin Recording Studios, Color of Grey Studio, Green Glass Capture and GVLmedia helping produce the project. The film team will highlight local events around the Upstate including Burns Night and The Kirkin’ o’ The Tartan in April both presented by the St. Andrew’s Society. Coverage for the film will also incorporate the entire week leading up to the 2019 Greenville Scottish Games taking place at Furman University.

The Scotland USA Film Project is set to premier later this year and will coincide with the promotion of the 2020 Greenville Scottish Games. They have started a campaign to help raise funds for the project at www.indiegogo.com or visit the film’s Facebook page to donate or volunteer. Spivey said the film will be done, but the amount of funds raised will polish the finished product.

“We are excited by this film and how it will reflect on Greenville and the rest of South Carolina,” he said.
