GREENVILLE, S.C. – One of South Carolina’s leading software technology companies has been named the 2019 Greenville Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.
Founded in 1999, Kopis has deep roots in the South Carolina technology community. With senior experience specializing in software application development for finance, healthcare and automotive and manufacturing, database administration and reporting, Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Dynamics ERP, they have a track record of success in critical areas.
“This is a great honor for our entire team,” said Andrew Kurtz, Kopis’s founder and CEO.
The first office of what was then known as Proactive Technology opened in 1999 on the second-floor of the building overlooking Piazza Bergamo downtown. Because of inevitable growth, Kurtz moved the company to Ivey Square, on top of today’s Southern Tide in a space that could accommodate the promise of continued company expansion in the fall of 2001.
Kurtz held tightly to his dream as the company was forced to adapt to a fluctuating economy impacted by the bursting of the internet bubble and subsequent NASDAQ crash, the 9-11 terrorist attacks and then financial collapse in 2008. Through all of this, the company maintain a strong team which has since grown to 50 employees.
The company rebranded as Kopis in 2015 as part of a strategy to rethink how to best serve clients and partners. Their success led to Kopis doubling its size in office space in the NEXT Building last year as well.
“Fast forward to 2020, Kopis’s capabilities have increased, but the focus remains the same - solving business problems, through technology, while keeping in mind the uniqueness of every customer and company’s specific needs,” Kurtz said.
