Jennifer Perras, Fitness Manager at The Salvation Army’s Kroc Center, was recently named as one of the Top 5 finalists in the 2021 SilverSneakers® Instructor of the Year Awards. SilverSneakers by Tivity Health® is the nation's leading community fitness program designed for seniors.
This marks the 5th anniversary of these distinguished awards, which honor the five top SilverSneakers instructors who have made a lasting impact on the lives of SilverSneakers members, inspiring seniors to get and stay active. Peers, class members, fitness location staff, and instructors submitted nominations. The winner and four finalists, including Perras, were announced at the end of June.
Perras oversees the Fitness Center, Kroc Fit and Group Fitness classes at the Kroc Center. Her role includes overseeing personal fitness trainers, group fitness instructors and coaches, as well as program development, event planning and promotion, member outreach and more. She has more than two decades of fitness industry experience, including stints working in China, Vietnam, Canada and the United States.
Currently, Perras manages all of the SilverSneakers programming at the Kroc center, including Strength, Circuit, Yoga, and SilverCycle, Silver&Fit and Renew Active. She also continues to teach indoor cycling classes.
Perras is a graduate of Sheridan College. In addition to holding SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit instructor certifications, she’s also an Elite level CPT, ISSA-CPT, ISSA-SFN, ISSA-YFT, Mat Pilates Level One and a Power Plate Master Trainer.
“My favorite thing about being a SilverSneakers instructor is being part of a community of great people,” said Perras. “Everyone has different fitness and health levels in my classes, but my goal is to help everyone feel empowered to get more activity and social connection in their lives, and inspire them to continually work to improve their health and wellbeing. I’m honored to be recognized as a Top 5 SilverSneakers Instructor of the Year award winner, and consider it my calling to help people live life to the healthiest.”
Currently, more than 17 million Americans are eligible for SilverSneakers at no additional cost through Medicare Advantage, group retiree, and Medicare Supplement plans. SilverSneakers encourages members to participate in health and fitness programs through a wide variety of offerings that include strength training, aerobic workouts, and flexibility exercises designed specifically for a Medicare eligible population. SilverSneakers members have free access to classes led by SilverSneakers instructors ranging in fitness abilities, as well as opportunities to engage socially to help achieve optimal health.
About Kroc Greenville
The 26 Kroc Centers throughout America were built and developed by The Salvation Army through a very generous $1.5 billion gift from Joan Kroc. When the Kroc Centers were being built in the late 2000s, each community, including Greenville, was required to raise a percentage of the funds necessary to open the center. The Greenville community graciously pledged the funds needed, and the doors opened in 2011. Kroc Greenville was tailored to the city’s needs: a 74,000-square-foot building resting on 25 acres dedicated to recreation and sports, fitness, youth programs, education, and worship for members of all ages and backgrounds. We invest in you because the Greenville community invested in us. To learn more, visit www.krocgreenville.org.
