ICMA: City of Greer is among nation’s top 25 cities in performance management

The City of Greer is among the nation’s elite when it comes to data-driven management and reporting efforts.

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has recognized the city with a Certificate of Excellence (the highest level) for incorporating the principles of performance management at varying levels into the organization.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be named among the best in the nation. The City of Greer places a high value on its performance management and reporting,” Deputy City Administrator Mike Sell said. “Those efforts not only allow us to measure effectiveness of service across departments, but also provide a means through which our customers can view, at a glance, the work being done by different departments. This is an area in which we strive to always excel.”

The City of Greer is among just 25 U.S. municipalities to earn the Certificate of Excellence for 2019 and joins Rock Hill as the only South Carolina cities to receive the honor at any level. This marks the fifth consecutive year the City of Greer has eared a certificate.
Certificates are awarded on the basis of criteria that include data collection and verification, training and support, public reporting, accountability and process improvement, networking, and leadership.

Certificates of Excellence are awarded to those who also track and report key outcomes, survey residents and local government employees, incorporate data into performance dashboards or other visual communications, and foster the development of a performance culture throughout their organizations.

ICMA will officially recognize recipients next month at its 105th Annual Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
