The American Heart Association (AHA) is pleased to announce that Reid Sherard, Shareholder and Family Law Team Leader at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., will chair the 2021-2022 Upstate Heart Walk campaign. This year-round initiative inspires companies and communities to rally around healthy living in order to combat cardiovascular diseases, the number one cause of death in the Upstate. “It’s a true honor to serve as Chair for this year’s Heart Walk,” said Sherard. “The past year has been difficult on everyone, but it has also served to focus us all on healthy living. I look forward to leading the charge to raise funds to further the mission of the AHA but also to creating lasting change both at the corporate and community level.”

Sherard’s family history inspired him to get involved with the American Heart Association. His late mother, Ann Sherard, was an active volunteer with the AHA and served as a survivor honoree at the 2015 Upstate Heart Ball. “My mother suffered from heart disease and believed strongly in the work of the American Heart Association. She was so honored to be recognized at the Heart Ball led by Susan and David Wilkins, and that experience galvanized our entire family. I look forward to honoring her legacy in my role as Heart Walk Chair.”

As Heart Walk chair, Sherard will lead a group of Upstate executives that will work to recruit companies and organizations to take part in the Heart Walk. Rick Pennell, CEO of Metromont and the 2020-2021 Chair, will continue to serve on the executive leadership team. “What’s exciting about the Heart Walk is, it’s not just a one-day thing where we get together and walk for a good cause,” said Pennell. “When companies participate, they get endless resources to drive employee wellness and the American Heart Association does it in a fun and exciting way.”

The Heart Walk will take place in the Spring of 2022 but, companies are invited to get involved now in order to take advantage of the many employee resources from the American Heart Association. For more information contact Margaret Stegall at Margaret.Stegall@heart.org.
