(Greenville, SC: March 19, 2018) Hard Hitter GORUCK & Ride benefitting the Green Beret Foundation is pleased to announce its inaugural bike ride and GORUCK event will be held over Memorial Day weekend. The first-of-its kind event in Greenville honors both those who have lost their lives in service to the United States along with their families. This event was held last year as a bike-only event called the Memorial Day Ride and also supported the Green Beret Foundation.
Two types of exciting events mark the weekend:
Three open-road bike rides to appeal to casual riders as well as experienced cyclists; these rides will be led by cyclists at Carolina Triathlon on Saturday, May 26. The two longer rides will include SAG support and rest stops.
10-mile ride start time: 10:00 a.m.
30-mile ride start time: 10:00 a.m.
70-mile ride start time: 9:00 a.m.
Two GORUCK events: Inspired by the most elite training offered to Special Forces soldiers and led by Green Berets, the GORUCK is a team event, building toughness, teamwork, and trust. The Hard Hitter GORUCK & Ride includes a GORUCK Tough (15 to 20 miles), beginning at 9pm on May 25, and a GORUCK Light (7 to 10 miles) beginning at 2pm on Saturday, May 26. The GORUCK routes will be posted to the Web site in May.
“My brother David was a Green Beret, US Army Special Forces, and is the inspiration behind this event,” says Lisa Roten Lorbiecki, founder of the Hard Hitter GORUCK & Ride. “Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him terribly. Honoring those who have died in service to our country is one way I can channel that grief to make a difference. And it’s special to be able to do it in a way that engages our community. Last year, Greenville’s cycling community came out in full force and had a great time. This year, we are expanding the event to appeal to even more people and raise vital funds for the Green Beret Foundation.”
A cookout will occur between the end of the rides and the departure of the GORUCK Light.
The rides and cookout will occur on Welborn Street in Greenville, SC, near Carolina Triathlon. All proceeds will go directly to the Green Beret Foundation; checks should be made payable to the Green Beret Foundation. Registration is now open online at goruckandride.com and will be limited so participants are encouraged to register early.
The inspiration behind the Hard Hitter GORUCK & Ride, David B. Roten, Jr. served in the United States Army as a decorated Special Forces Weapons Sergeant. After his honorable discharge in 2010, David supported the U.S. Government in austere environments. He was killed in action on November 27, 2014 in hostile territory supporting the U.S.
