Greenville’s Poinsett Club Named “Platinum Club of America”

Greenville, SC - Club Leaders Forum – the premier consulting source of the private club industry – recently announced that the Poinsett Club, one of the Greenville area’s oldest and most recognizable clubs, has again been named a “Platinum Club of America.”

Recognizing the top 5% of clubs in each category (Country Clubs, Golf Clubs, City Clubs, Athletic Clubs, and Yacht Clubs) in the private club industry, this award is the equivalent of the “Mobil Five-Star” designation for hotels and resorts.

Of the 1000 City Clubs in the United States, only 50 are selected for the “Platinum Club of America” designation.

Rankings are awarded every two years, and this marks the ninth consecutive period that the Poinsett Club earned this designation and the second since being recognized on the list of “Platinum Clubs of the World” earlier this year.

“Platinum Clubs of America demonstrate an absolute commitment to Excellence, Best Practices, and the Seven Selection Criteria, as approved by the Club Leaders Forum Advisory Board. We salute your Leadership, Management, Department Heads, and Staff who work tirelessly to enhance the Member experience. Your Board should also be congratulated for their passion and commitment to serve the Club, providing insight and wisdom while exercising fiscal responsibility,” wrote Dennis Burns, Executive Director, Club Leaders Forum and Platinum Clubs.

The selection criteria include universal recognition, excellence in amenities and facilities, caliber of staff and professional service levels, engagement and commitment of membership, governance and prudent fiscal management, adapting to changing times, and overall experience.

According to Brent Reeder, the Poinsett Club’s general manager, “The past couple of years have been challenging to navigate, but as our staff and membership worked together, not only did we get through COVID, we’re now above pre-pandemic levels of bookings, dining, and membership. Our members are bringing back their personal celebrations, events, and general daily use, and our staff are excited to make sure the doors stay open to them.”

“As members, we are incredibly appreciative of the staff members who make the club run so smoothly. It is their dedication that continues moving the Poinsett Club on the list of Platinum Clubs of America – now going from number 31 in the country to number 30. The intentionality of our staff provides a member experience like no other, and we are glad to see their commitment nationally recognized,” added 2022 Poinsett Club Board of Governors president Gary Caldwell.

Named a Platinum Club of America on nine consecutive occasions - which classifies it as one of only 50 five-star private city/dining clubs in the US - the Poinsett Club is located in the former Lewis Parker home in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Named a Platinum Club of the World in 2020 - which classifies it as one of only 100 private city/dining clubs in the world - the 40,000 sq.-ft. clubhouse features two ballrooms, 11 private dining rooms, several sitting rooms, a library, one fine dining room, and two cocktail lounges. Poinsett Club members enjoy reciprocal privileges at numerous private clubs across the US, British Columbia, and London.
