Greenville Triumph SC to Field Upstate Youth Academy Cup Team in 2020 National USL Competition

The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club is creating a team of Upstate youth all-star soccer players to participate in the 2020 USL Academy Cup, a new initiative taking place in Tampa, Florida in May. Open tryouts for the cup team will take place on December 7-8, 2019 at Legacy Early College Field.

The Triumph will field an all-star team of boys aged 12 and under to represent the Upstate and participate in the team's first ever Academy Cup program. The program will be a 10-12 week experience where athletes will get a glimpse into the professional soccer world, including coaching from Triumph staff, access to top quality soccer facilities, video analysis sessions, explosive performance training and the opportunity to represent the Upstate and the Triumph at an elite, national event Memorial Day Weekend in Tampa. Travel and uniform costs for the players will be paid for by the Triumph and sponsors.

“We’re excited to build a team of all-stars from the vibrant Upstate youth soccer community for this tournament,” said Triumph Head Coach John Harkes. “It will be a great honor for these kids to represent our organization and this region on a national stage in Florida next May.”

Tryouts for the Academy Cup program are $10 and will be held on December 7th and 8th from 2:00-4:00pm at Legacy Early College Field. Tryouts will be open to boys with birth years of 2007-2009. Players are encouraged to attend both dates if possible and are expected to bring proper equipment (water bottle, shin guards, socks, shorts, cleats, goalie jersey (if applicable) and a white t-shirt.
