GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville Country Club (GCC), one of the South’s most historic and prestigious country clubs, is proud to announce that Robb Thompson, Tennis Director, has been recognized as South Carolina’s Tennis Pro of the Year by the South Carolina branch of the United States Tennis Association (USTA SC). This award is given to a teaching professional who has greatly contributed to South Carolina tennis through USTA SC and his community. Thompson will accept this award in December at the USTA SC annual meeting in Hilton Head. USTA SC is a non-profit organization run by a board of directors and various committees.

Thompson has been the Tennis Director at Greenville Country Club for the past two years having served as GCC’s Head Professional for 23 years prior to this. He has helped to develop Greenville Country Club’s renowned tennis programs that are some of the largest and most recognized in the state, with over 200 kids participating in the junior program, home to 90 league teams, and host of four sanctioned tournaments throughout the year – one being a National Championship.

“I am so grateful to receive this award from an organization I admire so much,” says Robb Thompson. “Tennis is my life’s passion and work, and this is quite an honor.”

Thompson has always been heavily involved in the tennis community and has 33 years of coaching experience in South Carolina. He has served as the President for the South Carolina Pro’s Tennis Association, Junior Competition Chairperson, and has been an active board member of the South Carolina USTA. Additionally, he has coached the Junior Davis Cup team for South Carolina while also playing on the team as a junior. Thompson has won 38 State Championships and was recently elected into the Limestone College Hall of Fame.

Thompson continues to share his love and enthusiasm for the game on and off the court. He recently traveled to the U.S. Open to coach longtime student, Rob Galloway, which was quite an honor and achievement.
