(Greenville SC) October is “Try Transit Month” in the city of Greenville and Greenlink has a full schedule of events to celebrate.
Try Transit Month is part of an ongoing initiative to educate Greenville County residents about the economic and environmental benefits of public transit and encourage citizens who do not typically use public transportation to ride Greenlink. Try Transit Month events include children’s story time with Greenlink bus drivers, a “kindness rocks” event, an electric vehicle showcase and Greenlink’s popular Fare Free Friday sponsored by Greenville Heritage Federal Credit Union.
Fare Free Friday is scheduled for October 25 and on this special day, passengers will enjoy free rides and transfers on all of Greenlink’s 12 fixed routes (Greenville Area Paratransit service is excluded from this promotion). Routes 501-601 run from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Route 602 runs from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Schedule and route information is available online to help customers plan their trips.
Another important date this month is October 31, which is the deadline to apply for Greenlink’s Citizens Transit Academy. The transit academy is a free, six-week program designed to offer Greenville County residents a unique opportunity to learn about public transportation and the opportunities and challenges facing Greenlink. Up to 30 people will be selected from the pool of applicants and classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall. The application and class schedule are available online.
