Furman seniors display works of art through May 11 in Thompson Gallery

Finley Buchanan is among the 12 seniors showing work at the exhibition.

Art by 12 Furman University graduating seniors will be on display through May 11 in Thompson Gallery of the Roe Art Building on the Furman campus. Thompson Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Presented by the Furman Department of Art, the exhibition is free and open to the public.

In the exhibition, “Énouement,” artists will display a variety of mediums: painting, ceramics, photography, mixed media, digital painting and sculpture. Many works will be available for sale.

The Class of 2019 offers this statement about “Énouement”:

“Each senior’s work references something specific to their personal journey, for example, struggling with depression, overcoming the stages of grief, experiencing the world through their sanctuaries, and relaying stories that focus on the transformative power of imagination and art. The title ‘Énouement’ references each senior’s bittersweet longing to tell their past selves how they have navigated the twists and turns of life. Now, in the future feeling the depths of Énouement, the seniors tell their past selves how it all turned out and the lessons they gleaned along the way.”

Students displaying work are: Louisa Bristol (Houston, Texas); Finley Buchanan (Greenville); Katherine Fleet (Memphis, Tennessee); Sophie Harris (Greenville); Corrine Helman (Lewisville, North Carolina); Ezabell Michell (Atlanta, Georgia); Sarah Murdaugh (Greenville); Campbell Sullivan (Columbia); Aaron Templeton (Knoxville, Tennessee); Olivia White (Sarasota, Florida); Anneli Wingertz (Hockessin, Delaware); and Lauren Zimmerman (Arden, North Carolina).
