GREENVILLE, SC - Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP announced today that Daniel S. Sanders Jr. will join the firm as a partner in the Greenville and Atlanta offices on March 15, 2018. Sanders returns to the firm after spending more than 20 years at Michelin.
“We are so pleased to have Dan come back to Nelson Mullins,” said Nelson Mullins Managing Partner Jim Lehman. “His experience is deep and wide and will help us serve clients by giving us keen insight into the legal and business problems facing the needs of today’s businesses. Dan will be a great addition to our Greenville and Atlanta offices, but also to our national platform.”
Sanders previously worked for three years in the Atlanta office of Nelson Mullins, leaving in 1996 to join Michelin’s litigation group. Over the next two decades he would serve in progressive roles, including two years in the company’s headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He also spent three years outside the legal department as Vice-President of Audit and Risk Management. Sanders’ most recent position was Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer.
Sanders, who recently was named the University of South Carolina Law School Compleat Lawyer Award winner for 2018, will work in both the corporate and litigation areas of the firm.
“Michelin is a world class, industry-leading company, and it has been an honor and privilege to work there,” Sanders said. “Their values and people are first class. Likewise, Nelson Mullins is a leading, first-class law firm with great values and people. I look forward to returning to the firm and participating in its very bright future.”
Sanders is a graduate of Furman University (B.A., 1986) and the University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D., 1989). He currently serves on the boards at Furman University, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Greenville YMCA.
Nelson Mullins opened a Greenville office in 1987 when then former Governor and now former United States Secretary of Education Dick Riley joined the firm. In 2009, former South Carolina Speaker of the House and United States Ambassador to Canada David Wilkins joined the Greenville office. Nelson Mullins attorneys represent many of the businesses, financial services institutions, and manufacturers in the region and beyond and also contribute to various boards and commissions working to improve the lives and opportunities for Upstate South Carolina residents.
