GREENVILLE, SC (January 11, 2021) – Endeavor, a coworking space in downtown Greenville’s LEED-certified ONE tower, announces that it will host its next Collaborators & Cocktails speaker series with TED Talks Daily podcast host and NPR newswoman Elise Hu on Thursday, January 28. The virtual event will feature an interview with Hu conducted by Joe Erwin, founder of Endeavor, co-founder of the Erwin Center for Brand Communications, and president of Erwin Creates. Hu will reflect on her varied experiences in journalism; remaining true to her personal brand, goals and priorities; and where she finds inspiration.
Hu is the host of TED Talks Daily, the podcast from the non-profit behind TED conferences – and TED’s most-downloaded podcast. She also works as a correspondent at VICE News for its daily newscast VICE News Tonight and is a host-at-large for NPR’s All Things Considered, based in Los Angeles. In that role, she reports stories and fill-in hosts on the network’s podcasts and radio shows. In addition to her day job, she is also a panelist on the Korean TV network Arirang’s talk show, Foreign Correspondents, sits on the board of Grist magazine and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
“Elise is an entrepreneurial journalist and has had a remarkable career, covering stories all over the world and launching new platforms,” said Joe Erwin. “Not only that – she spent her early days as a reporter in Greenville, working for WYFF! We’re thrilled to have her join us at Endeavor for Collaborators & Cocktails to share her experiences and her innovative ideas. We are both looking forward to a lively, fun, and in all likelihood, somewhat unpredictable, conversation.”
An honors graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Journalism, Hu’s work has earned a duPont-Columbia award, a Gannett Foundation Award for Innovation in Watchdog Journalism and a National Edward R. Murrow award for best online video. The Austin Chronicle once named her the “Best TV Reporter Who Can Write.”
Hu began her career in journalism as a television reporter in Texas, Missouri, and South Carolina – where she worked for WYFF. In Texas, she helped launch the digital news startup, The Texas Tribune, where she oversaw video, the flagship podcast and reported for the outlet’s partners at The New York Times.
In 2011 Hu joined the radio and digital network NPR and between 2015 and 2018 served as international correspondent and NPR’s first Seoul bureau chief. She covered North and South Korea, Japan, and pursued other stories throughout Asia. She returned to the U.S. in 2018 to produce a video show discussing the future, called “Future You with Elise Hu.”
The virtual Collaborators & Cocktails event will be hosted on Zoom. Waiting room opens at 5:20 p.m., followed by the presentation and Q&A session at 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. The event is free to all Endeavor members and $10 for non-members. Registration is required.
