The Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council recently expanded its team in October 2020, announcing Kelly Downing as the new Certification Specialist. Her duties will include supporting the four pillars of the Council’s work to Advocate, Connect, Develop and Certify Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) for opportunities with Corporate Partners seeking to fulfill supplier development initiatives. Prior to working with CVMSDC, Downing worked as a project coordinator for Capital One (through an Apple One Inc. contract) and has a professional background that includes HR, account management, administrative support and customer service.
Downing said: “I’m honored to work with the CVMSDC network as the new certification specialist. Our work directly helps to make people’s lives better, while promoting economic growth and developing partnerships with minority-owned businesses.” Downing earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Marketing from the University of South Florida and has more than 10 years of professional relationship development and project management experience.
CVMSDC President & CEO Dominique Milton said: “Certification is such an important part of the work that we do at the Council. In addition to advocacy, business development, and connecting MBEs to Corporate Partners, CVMSDC also handles the certification process to make sure our Corporate Partners have access to certified MBEs that can provide quality goods and services into the supply chain. We are pleased to welcome Kelly Downing to the team and look forward to her contributions in supporting this important work of certification and supplier development.” Downing is based in Virginia, but will continue to work remotely for the remainder of 2020.
