The 12th Annual Benson Classic Car Show benefitting Greer Community Ministries (GCM) is Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greer First Baptist Church, 201 W. Poinsett St. The SC Region Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) is helping plan the event that raises funds for Meals on Wheels and other GCM programs.
The family-friendly event is free to the public. Car registration is $20 and is available online at gcminc.org under the events tab. Registration is also available on the day of the event. The Chuck Truck, Henry’s Hog Hauler, and Sno Hut have committed to be at the car show selling burger and barbecue plates and shaved ice. A free figure-8 inflatable obstacle course and carnival games for kids will be on site. DJ George Morrow will provide music and Greenville Health System nurses will offer free blood pressure checks and stroke education.
“We are excited to be moving this event to August,” said Stephen Smith, GCM executive director. “This is a great opportunity for a fun family day before the summer is over. We are grateful that Jim Benson continues to support our mission to help those in need in Greer.”
GCM asks that school supplies for local students be donated at the event. Last August, the ministry provided supplies for more than 400 children.
“Bringing school supplies to the event is not a requirement, but we hope that people will help us collect items that day and fill our bus,” Smith said.
Sponsorships are still available. The ministry hopes to raise $75,000, enough to provide 18,750 Meals on Wheels lunches.
GCM is a 510(c)(3) nonprofit that has served the greater Greer community since 1972. All services are provided free of charge to those in need. For more information about GCM, visit gcminc.org.
