Anderson Symphony presents “Anderson’s Got Talent 2019!”

ANDERSON, SC---- Anderson’s own community symphony, the Anderson Symphony Orchestra (ASO), will present Anderson’s Got Talent 2019 under the direction of Dr. Andrew Pettus on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 3:00pm in Daniel Recital Hall in the Rainey Fine Arts Center at Anderson University.  Highlighting the winners of the ASO’s annual Concerto & Aria Competition, the afternoon will also feature a special performance of Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand performed by David Kiser.

The 2018 ASO Concerto & Aria Competition was held in early October and open to undergraduate vocal and instrumental students enrolled in the Music Department at the SC School of the Arts at Anderson University.  Winners of this season’s competition were Hannah Byrne (piano), Sarah Springer (soprano), Courtnie Cox (soprano), Charlotte Tanner (flute), Griffin Lewis (bass) and Tori Hewitt (mezzo-sopriano).  Performances for the afternoon will include works by Beethoven, Gershwin, Rossini and more.

Pianist David Kiser is the host and producer of South Carolina Public Radio’s ON THE KEYS, a weekly statewide program about the piano.  A seasoned performer, he has been featured  at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC as well as the Spoleto Festival in Perugia, Italy.  Mr. Kiser teaches music theory and piano at Anderson University and frequently performs in departmental concerts.  He is currently serving as the principal keyboardist for the Asheville Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-2019 concert season.  He and his wife, pianist Lisa Kiser, will present a duo recital to close the L’Organo series of the 2019 Spoleto Festival USA in June.

Founded in 1975, the Anderson Symphony Orchestra is a civic orchestra comprised of community volunteer instrumentalists, college students from Anderson University, and talented high school students.  Membership is by audition and is open to all instrumentalists.  Dr. Andrew Pettus was named conductor of the ASO in 2017.

Tickets to Anderson’s Got Talent 2019 are available for advance purchase by calling the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium (GAMAC) at (864) 231-6147.  Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door one hour prior to the performance.  Prices are just $15 for adults and $7 for children.
