GREENVILLE, SC (March 4, 2019) – Wyche attorney Wallace Lightsey has been elected as a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers at the Academy’s recent meeting.
The American Academy of Appellate Lawyers was founded in 1990 to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers and promote the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts. Academy membership is open only to a person who possesses a reputation of recognized distinction as an appellate lawyer. To be eligible for membership, a nominee’s practice must have focused substantially on appeals during at least the last 15 years. Academy membership is limited to 500 members in the United States. Membership in the Academy is by invitation only. Candidates for membership must be nominated by a present Academy member, reviewed and approved by a Membership Evaluation Committee, and elected at a regular Academy meeting.
Wallace was selected based on his experience arguing numerous appeals in the South Carolina appellate courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has over 30 years of experience and a diverse litigation practice involving complex securities, corporate, and intellectual property cases, as well as news media and First Amendment disputes. Wallace also has an active practice litigating intellectual property disputes. In recent years, has been lead counsel in copyright lawsuits involving close to a billion dollars in aggregate.
Wallace has served the community on various boards, including the South Carolina Bar Foundation, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the Greenville United Way, and the Warehouse Theatre. He is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School. Wallace previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable John Minor Wisdom of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and Chief Justice Warren Burger of the United States Supreme Court.
