GREENVILLE, SC (January 10, 2018) — The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation has appointed sports marketing entrepreneur and Golf Channel® veteran Steve Sellery as Executive Director, and named Mike McGovern – former Operations Director of the tournament – as Tournament Director.
“Steve was not only the founder and CEO of a full-service experiential event marketing agency focusing on sports and entertainment, but his depth also includes his role as Director of Sports Marketing at Golf Channel and Director of Event Marketing & Partnerships at The Cliffs,” said Bob Nitto, President, BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation. “We are confident that Steve will utilize this wealth of experience and leadership to elevate the visibility of our tournament while further maximizing the financial support we are able to offer our charities.”
“I am honored to be leading this team and our efforts across the Upstate to make the greatest impact possible for each of our charities,” said Sellery. “This opportunity represents a dream-sequence for me, both personally and professionally, and I look forward to working with our Board of Directors, sponsors, and community partners well into the future.”
McGovern joined the tournament team in Fall 2016 after serving as Operations Director at HNS Sports Group in Dublin, Ohio, where he received numerous awards from the PGA TOUR.
The tournament is managed by the non-profit organization South Carolina Charities, Inc. and has donated over $12.7 million to numerous Upstate charities since the tournament’s inception in 2001. An economic impact study by Clemson University’s International Institute of Tourism Research and Development estimated that the tournament annually generates total direct spending of $4.712 million, supports 139 jobs, generates net local government revenues of $541,048 and net state government revenues of $868,479, and yields $6.744 million in total output/impact.
