Spartanburg Preparatory School’s Board of Directors appoints Tomikia Whitmire as Head of School

SPARTANBURG, SC- Spartanburg Preparatory School’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Tomikia Whitmire as the new Head of School beginning the 2018-2019 academic year. Mrs. Whitmire has been a part of Spartanburg Prep since the doors opened in 2009 to educate its first students. Throughout her tenure at Spartanburg Prep, Mrs. Whitmire has consistently demonstrated leadership both inside and outside the classroom in the roles of 4th and 5th grade teacher, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and most recently as Interim Head of School. She not only is dedicated to ensuring students are challenged to do their very best academically but also that they are good citizens of the world and demonstrate character and leadership skills that will help them grow into successful adults. She believes in the students and staff and empowers them to grow to become better every day.
Mrs. Whitmire has earned an Ed.S in Administration and Leadership, Masters of Education from Liberty University in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a Bachelors of Arts degree from Limestone College in Elementary Education. Additionally, she plans to receive her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration in December 2018. Her accolades include two-time Teacher of the Year for Spartanburg Prep (2009 and 2013) as well as helping Spartanburg Prep win a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award and become AdvancED (SACS) accredited.
When asked about the transition into the permanent role as Head of School, Mrs. Whitmire stated, “I am honored to become Spartanburg Preparatory School’s Head of School next year. I am excited to be able to lead such wonderful students and staff and continue to strengthen the established level of success Spartanburg Prep is known for. This vision of success not only includes providing students a superior education but ultimately equipping them to succeed in life. My ultimate goal is to ensure Spartanburg Prep students are prepared for an ever-changing world and understand how to use information to make well-informed decisions to be resilient, moral, compassionate, confident individuals who are capable of making positive contributions to the community and of defining success on their own terms. I look forward to navigating this journey with all Spartanburg Prep stakeholders to ensure a fulfilling and lifelong experience for our students.”
