In appreciation of 6 years of dedicated service on the Greenville Airport Commission, R. Kinard Johnson, Jr. was presented an obelisk by Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) Director, Joe Frasher. Johnson, who was appointed by Greenville City Council, served from 2012 to 2018 and earned the Vice Chairman designation during his last two years. "Johnson is a great supporter of Runway Park, helped establish the airport's annual Take Flight 5K event and brought the commission his legal expertise after retiring from being a judge in Greenville. His support, perspective and guidance will be truly missed", stated Frasher.
The Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) is the busiest general aviation airport in South Carolina and is a self-sufficient entity with financial strength that doesn't rely on local taxpayers for funding. GMU is home to Greenville Jet Center, the largest Fixed Base Operation (FBO) in the state, as well as more than 15 other aviation-related businesses creating 547 jobs that annually contribute more than $68.8 million to the Upstate economy.
