Spartanburg, SC- Mary Black Health System-Spartanburg has named Mary Smith the 2018 Volunteer of the Year. Mary is a C.A.R.E. (care and respect everyday) volunteer. She is dedicated to checking in on patients and offering help to make them more comfortable. One nurse says of Mary, “She is a pleasure to be around because of her positive attitude and kind, loving heart. She often goes out of her way to help address the needs of staff, patients and their families.”
The Volunteer of the Year award is voted upon annually by staff members, patients, visitors and fellow volunteers and is presented at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet. “Mary is well-deserving of the Volunteer of the Year award and is known all over the hospital for her signature calling card—a flower left in each patient’s room she visits,” says Sherry Winstead, Volunteer Coordinator.
