Amber Morgan, a member of the faculty at Greenville Technical College (GTC), received the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Southern Region Faculty Member Award on September 27 at the organization’s 48th Leadership Congress held in Las Vegas.
As head of the GTC Academic Connections department, Morgan is responsible for the delivery of courses and programming that have a profound effect on first-year students at the college. In the classroom, she motivates students in College Orientation courses to find their potential as they begin college. Also responsible for a comprehensive first-year experience program, Morgan and her team have created welcome events and engagement activities, a financial education center, and programs that promote student service, introducing new students to concepts that will help them be successful.
“We are very pleased to see Amber Morgan recognized for the outstanding contributions she is making to the success of our students,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “She has taken an innovative approach to engaging students in the college community and developing their capabilities, and this approach is seeing real results as students make a strong start and build the skills and confidence to continue and succeed.”
Only four other regional awards were presented in the faculty category. Additional regional awards were presented in the trustee leadership, equity, chief executive officer, and professional board staff member categories. Overall winners in each category were also named.
Founded in 1972, the Association of Community College Trustees is the nonprofit educational organization of governing boards representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees of community, technical and junior colleges in the United States and beyond. ACCT’s purpose is to strengthen the capacity of community, technical and junior colleges and to foster the realization of their missions through effective board leadership at local, state, and national levels.
