US Naval Academy Midshipman First Class Ben Dunphy of Piedmont has been recognized for achieving the Highest Order of Merit of the USNA Class of 2018 from South Carolina.
The Palmetto Chapter of the United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and the Upper South Carolina Council of the Navy League of the United States jointly hosted an awards program at the Poinsett Club in Greenville on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
Captain Al Olsen, USNA '72, in honor of his father, USNA '45, presented the Captain A. R. Olsen, Jr., Memorial Sword to Midshipman Dunphy. Captain Olsen is the USNA Blue and Gold Officer for South Carolina.
President of the Navy League, Upper SC Council, Rear Admiral Harry Rittenour, USNA ’68, presented Midshipman Dunphy with a plaque commemorating his achievement.
Midshipman Dunphy is the son of Peter and Annette Dunphy of Piedmont. He is a member of the Naval Academy Heavyweight Crew Team and has chosen submarines as his service selection following his graduation and commissioning in May. He was appointed to the Naval Academy by Congressman Jeff Duncan of the SC Third Congressional District.
